A story in a small space
A patch concentrates an idea into a compact form. Its outline, central motif and surrounding space need to work together at a glance. Compare these entries for the different ways a small design can express an interest, a memory or a sense of belonging.

The finish line, in thread. Two checkered flags crossed on their poles, embroidered in black and white with the fabric caught mid-wave - folded and rippling rather than lying flat, which is what stops it reading as a static chessboard. The test of a checkered flag patch is whether the squares stay square. Loose stitching lets black bleed into white and the whole grid goes grey and soft. These are stitched with hard, straight boundaries, so the checker pattern holds its geometry even where the flag folds. At 3.2 by 2.5 inches it fits a vest chest panel, a jacket sleeve, a cap front, a tote or a tool bag. The heat-activated backing bonds to cotton, denim and canvas with a full five minutes of firm, steady heat. On a motorcycle vest, or on anything leather, sew the border - that is what it is bound for. Made by digitemb, who make embroidered patches and nothing else.

- RACING PATCHES WITH CLEAN CHECKER EDGES - A checkered flag lives or dies on whether the squares stay square. These are stitched with hard, straight boundaries - no bleed between black and white.
