Put it into practice
Write down which file you need for editing, previewing and machine use. Check each against the software or machine that will receive it instead of relying on the extension alone.
Keep a useful record
Save an editable working copy and label your experiment with its intended size and material. Compare the preview with a sample before repeating the setup on a finished item. Note what changed and what remained constant so the next attempt answers a specific question. A screen preview helps with planning, while the sewn result shows how the material behaves.
