Poppy Treffry started her textile business in Newlyn in 2004, working from drawings, vintage fabrics and a domestic Singer sewing machine. Her official site now brings together finished homewares and accessories, project patterns, a beginner course, books and Embroidery Club resources.

Fabric becomes part of the drawing
Use appliqué, layered cloth and visible edges as shapes. The stitched line connects those pieces instead of hiding them.

Draw one everyday object
Make three quick versions using one continuous line. Pick the clearest, not the most polished.

Translate the contour
On a practice sandwich, use a domestic machine with a darning foot and the feed teeth lowered or covered. Move slowly and guide the hoop by hand.

Test it as a product detail
Place the stitched sample on a paper outline of a small accessory. Photograph it, then record fabric, thread and the order of work.
