What is Auto-digitizing?
Auto digitizing tools of any machine embroidery software can automatically convert bitmap images, photos, and vector images into a clear and clean design.
In this article, we are going to discuss:
What are the Auto-Digitizing Tools of Embroidery Digitizing?
Auto Digitizing tools based on algorithms use a computing language that makes decisions about the appropriate embroidery design layering, most suitable stitch type, stitch counts, colors and converts any artwork into machine embroidery design files.
What is the Difference between Manual and Auto Digitizing?
Well, to keep this thing in a simple manner, the manual selection and placement of embroidery stitches, along with computing machine commands for machine embroidery, is “Manual digitizing.”
On the other hand, In auto digitizing, the specific tools of machine embroidery software provides every order such as stitch type, stitch count and others to digitize any graphic or artwork automatically without any single manual input or command
Some Pros and Cons of Auto digitizing
Well to get to know more about auto digitizing, let’s discuss it little further about its pros and cons.
Pros of Auto Digitizing
Auto digitizing can essentially save your time and effort, and it is ideal to be used correctly on basic graphical images such as geometrical shapes, simple logos and other simpler bitmap images
Cons of Auto Digitizing
Auto digitizing can create more trouble if you’re using it on a more complex design because auto digitizing tools of an embroidery software run on the layers of embroidery designs that artists created in that image. That is why it is more prone to cause excessive stitch counts, irregular image distortion, incorrect push and pull compensation, and too many trims and jump stitches.
While on the other hand,
Manual digitizing is great when working with complex artwork. It can be used to enhance and modify the quality of highly intricate artwork, especially when clients require highly complex embroidery digitizing because it save the stitch count, reduced trims and jump stitches and give excellent results in color blending and shading.
How to prepare an artwork for Auto Digitizing?
Preparing an artwork is necessary for auto digitizing because sometimes you need to remove background and unnecessary spaces, fill gaps, color correction, or add or enhance the outlines for quality machine embroidery.
Also, the image may have different types of noise such as dithering and other depending on where it comes from. If the image has contours (lines or edges), they may be blurred because of anti-aliasing.
To prepare an artwork for auto you can use Bitmap Color tool to prepare image for auto digitizing. Bitmap color tool reduces ‘noise, flatten colors and sharpens the image's quality and outline automatically.
Step-by-step process of Auto digitizing
To explain the auto digitizing process, we are using here Smart Design Tool of Wilcom Embroidery Studio.
The Smart Design tool offers greater control over object conversion, allowing stitching sequencing on the closest point while recognizing the different shapes in an artwork. Additionally, it enables you to set the most suitable stitch type and can efficiently handle both bitmap images and vector formats at the same time.
In first step, upload the file and then preset the artwork and can set the values of X and Y positions with height and width of the image.
Now, select the particular image and click on Smart Design tool for auto digitize the image.
Now, use the Color Allocation panel to remove the unwanted colors.
If you want to outline all the detected shapes, check "Add outlines" and choose a color from the list. This will add running stitches to all the color blocks.
Click OK to process the image.
Edit the embroidery object as desired, such as color, stitch type, etc.
Some Final Words
Auto digitizing tools of any machine embroidery software can automatically convert bitmap images, photos, and vector images into a clear and clean design.
We hope that this article has sheds some light and given you enough and basic understanding about the process of Auto digitizing along with the image preparation and selection of artwork.
